What is the Donut Fun Run?
It's a donut-themed 5K, about 3.1 miles, built for runners, walkers and anyone who just wants the donut at the end.
Registration is open to ages 1 to 100. That's a pretty wide net, so bring the whole family. The race kicks off at the promenade on the old Naval Air Station grounds, right on the water at the west end of the island.
What happens at the Finish Line Festival?
The party after the race is the real draw, with a donut eating contest, live music, local food and a health and wellness expo.
- The contest: Each contestant gets a box of donuts. First one done wins race swag, prizes and bragging rights. You'll need to fill out a consent form first.
- The dancers: The Dancing Donuts, a group of dancers from Alameda's Dance/10 studio, make their debut. There's a live DJ too.
- The food: Local food, drink and craft vendors from around the Bay Area. Beer and wine are served to guests 21 and older.
- The donuts: They come from Donut Petit.
Where do I park my bike, and who benefits?
Organizers say valet bike parking will be provided, so you can pedal over from anywhere on the island.
The race's nonprofit partner is Girls Inc. of the Island City. The group runs programs for girls and gender-expansive youth across Alameda, with a focus on academics, leadership, health and wellness. Race organizers haven't said how much of the money goes to the group, so check with them if you're curious.
What happens next?
Race day is Saturday, Oct. 17, with the 5K kicking off at 9 a.m. RunSignup lists registration as open until the start time, but signing up early is the safer bet.
