Alameda Island Running Festival Returns to Alameda Point
A half marathon, 10K, 5K and family mile take over Alameda Point on Sept. 20, the same day as Blues, Brews and BBQ.

Runners take over Alameda Point on Sunday, Sept. 20, when the Alameda Island Running Festival brings a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a one-mile family run to City Hall West, with the first wave stepping off at 7:30 a.m.

When does the Alameda Island Running Festival start?
Racers spread out across the morning so nobody's fighting for space at the start line. The half marathon goes off first at 7:30 a.m., the 10K follows at 8, the 5K run or walk starts at 8:15, and the one-mile family fun run wraps things up at 10 a.m. It's chip-timed, so your finish time starts when you actually cross the line, not when the gun goes off.
Where does the race run in Alameda?
Everything starts and finishes at City Hall West at Alameda Point, 950 West Mall Drive, the same stretch of the former Naval Air Station that's become home to breweries, startups and open space over the past few years. Jogging strollers are welcome as long as they start toward the back of the pack. Dogs aren't allowed on the course or at the finish line.
How much does it cost to run?
Prices climb the closer you get to race day, but as of now the half marathon runs $122.90, the 10K is $81.56, and the 5K is $55.06, with a $28.56 rate for kids 12 and under. The family fun run is $28.56 for adults and $23.26 for kids. A portion of every entry fee benefits the Alameda Education Foundation, which supports Alameda's public schools.
What else is happening in Alameda that day?
Runners won't be the only ones out. Sept. 20 is also the day Washington Park hosts Blues, Brews and BBQ, so expect a busy Sunday around the island with two crowds converging from Alameda Point to the West End.
