The roundabout at Tilden Way, Fernside and Blanding is now open, and Fernside connects to Tilden again. Two-way traffic is back on Tilden Way north of the roundabout. It's part of the Clement Avenue and Tilden Way project, separate from the Central Avenue work.
Blanding Avenue between Broadway and Tilden stays closed through January 2027. To reach Blanding, use Broadway and a new one-way, westbound-only stretch of Clement. The city's roundabout rules: drive counterclockwise, yield to people walking and biking in the crosswalks, signal before you exit and don't stop inside. See the project page →

The city released its draft Gibbons Drive Sidewalks and Trees Plan on Oct 2, and the Planning Board holds a public hearing on it Monday, Oct 12, at 7 PM. Of the 112 sweetgums left on Gibbons, an arborist rated 88 in good condition and 24 in fair.
The plan fixes sidewalks one spot at a time, worst first, and caps tree removal at 20% of what's left in any five-year stretch. Before a tree comes out, crews would try shaving concrete or curving the sidewalk around roots first. Residents picked six replacement species, favoring big trees with fall color. The plan goes to City Council in December. See the plan →
The city opened a self-serve sandbag station on Tuesday at Lexington Street and W. Hope Street, earlier than usual, ahead of what's expected to be a wet El Niño winter. Each resident can take up to five, and staff will help load them on Saturday, Nov 7, from 8 AM to noon.
To report flooding or a blocked drain, call 510-747-7900 during business hours or 510-337-8340 nights and weekends. The City Council also had a $275,000 contract on its Tuesday agenda to run the winter warming shelter at Christ Episcopal Church, up to 25 people a night from Dec 1 to Apr 30. Read more →

Cue Nations is a new pool hall upstairs at 1537 Webster St, and it opened in late September. Walk into the street-level lobby and head up the stairs.
Owners Mueen and Azaam turned an empty 1,500-square-foot mezzanine into a billiards room with 9-foot tables and TVs for live sports. In their words, it's a place where friends, families and pool players can come together.
It's open every day starting at 2 PM. They also clip the best shots off their cameras: tell them what time you hit yours, and they'll check the footage and post your highlight.
