Downtown Alameda turns into a free evening hangout every Thursday, and it's not stopping until the end of October.
What is Thursday at the Avenue
Thursday at the Avenue runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, now through October 29, right on Alameda Avenue near the historic storefronts by the Alameda Museum and the old Masonic Temple building. The Downtown Alameda Business Association puts it on, and it's built to be the kind of thing you can walk to after work or swing by with the kids before dinner.
Here's what you'll find most weeks:
- Live, family-friendly music
- Outdoor games set up by All Good Living, the kind of oversized yard games that turn a picnic table into a stage
- Pop-up vendors selling local goods
It doesn't cost anything to show up. You don't need a ticket or a reservation, just show up on Alameda Avenue any Thursday evening between now and the end of October.
Why it matters for a Thursday night
Alameda doesn't have a lot of standing weeknight options that don't require driving somewhere else. This one is a few blocks, free, and over by 7:30, so it's not a late night even for families with school the next morning. It's also a chance to see local vendors and musicians who might not otherwise get a stage or a table, and a reason for neighbors to actually run into each other outside instead of just waving from the car.
