Highwire Coffee Opens a Second Alameda Cafe at Star Harbor
The Oakland roaster is bringing a second Alameda location to the old Del Monte cannery this fall.

Highwire Coffee Roasters is opening a second Alameda cafe at Star Harbor, the converted Del Monte cannery at 1518 Clement Avenue, with plans to open this fall and daily hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where is the new Highwire Coffee in Alameda?
It's on the east side of Star Harbor, the apartment complex going into the old Del Monte cannery building on Clement Avenue. That puts it between the Park Street and Webster Street corridors, in a stretch of the East End that hasn't had a coffee shop of its own. Highwire already runs a cafe at 1234 Park Street, so this will be its second Alameda location.
When does Highwire Coffee open at Star Harbor?
Highwire says this fall, but it hasn't nailed down a date. That's worth knowing before you plan a visit: Highwire's own pages don't fully agree with each other on timing, so treat "fall" as the safest bet for now rather than a specific month. When it does open, the shop plans to run seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., matching the hours at its other locations.
What will the new cafe serve?
Highwire's listing for the location describes a full lineup of seasonally rotating coffee beans, four types of tea and locally sourced baked goods delivered daily. It's a smaller footprint shop, in keeping with Highwire's other neighborhood cafes rather than one of its larger market hall spots in Oakland.
What this means for Alameda
Star Harbor is part of a bigger push to bring housing and street level businesses back into Alameda's old industrial waterfront buildings. A new cafe means more reasons to walk that stretch of Clement Avenue, and another option for East End residents who'd otherwise have to drive to Park Street or Webster Street for a coffee.
